Couvent des Jacobins obtains "organic farming" certification for the 2020 vintage

Dear Friends of Couvent,

Today, I am extremely proud to announce that Couvent des Jacobins has obtained its « Organic Farming » certification by Ecocert France on 29 September 2020 for the 2020 vintage.

Another stone to the house of this Historic Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion and a milestone in the domaine's nearly 700 years history. And a great pride for the wine Appellation of Saint-Emilion, which confirms its dynamism in tackling these important themes for the future generations.

The certification is the result of a decade of teamwork at Couvent, in the vineyard and at the cellar. Everyone was quickly onboard. Your enthusiasm warmed my heart. A great example of working towards a goal that may have felt out of reach 10 years ago. With a few scares, bumps and frustrations along the way - the freeze in 2017, the mildew in 2018 and 2020 all required quick decisions, countless hours of work and led to sleepless nights. But it's also been a great and fun learning journey. And now at least, we know (more or less!) where we're heading to.

Vintage 2020 of « Couvent des Jacobins », Grand Cru Classé, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, and of « Le Menut des Jacobins », Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, will be the first vintage certified « organic farming ». Vintages 2018 and 2019 come from « a vineyard and grapes under organic farming conversion. »

The Organic Farming certification is only the first step in the broader sustainability strategy of Couvent. We will soon be making additional announcements on other initiatives we are working on. Stay tuned !

I'd like to thank everyone for your continued support. I hope you and your close ones are in good health and keep high spirits in this complicated situation.

We all look forward to see you soon at Couvent,

All the best,

Xavier JEAN
